BREAKING NEWS! PSG Convoy In North Cotabato Ambushed By Suspected NPA!

[Update at least 4 wounded] Presidential Security Group were wounded when a convoy of the unit clashed with communist rebels in Arakan town, Cotabato province Wednesday morning.

PSG spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Michael Aquino, in media interviews, clarified that the incident was not an ambush, as earlier reported, but an encounter between 10 of their personnel and some 50 rebels who had set up a fake military checkpoint in Barangay Gambudes, Arakan.

He said the clash happened when the PSG personnel sensed that the gunmen manning the checkpoint were not soldiers.

Brigadier General Gilbert Gapay, Eastern Mindanao deputy commander, said in a radio interview that four PSG personnel were wounded but Aquino, citing reports reaching them, placed the injured at five.

Gapay said the rebels involved in the incident belonged to the New People’s Army Guerrilla Front 53.

A spot report on the incident from the Region 10 police office said the convoy was on its way from Panacan, Davao City to Cagayan de Oro City.

Gapay said the PSG personnel were now in a “safe area.”
