President Rodrigo Duterte has finally ordered the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to occupy all territories within the maritime area of West Philippine Sea included in the country's exclusive sovereign rights.
The President gave the orders in a briefing with the officers of the AFP Western Command at Camp Artemio Ricarte in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
"We tried to be friends with everybody but we have to maintain our jurisdiction now at least (in the) areas.. under control and I have ordered the Armed Forces to occupy all," said President Duterte.
There were around nine to 10 islands in the West Philippine Sea "where I must build bunkers or houses and make provisions for habitation," Duterte said to the media.
The President added that he would replace the BRP Sierra Madre with a luxury liner so that Filipino soldiers stationed onboard the vessel would be able to enjoy and relax while guarding the territory.
"Atin 'yong barko do'n, palitan ko ng luxury liner, 'yong may mga waiter, swimming pool..," said Duterte.
President Duterte also said he might go to Pag-asa Island in Kalayaan, Palawan, which is within the Spratlys, on June 12, Independence Day, to raise the Philippine flag in the territory.
“Sa coming Independence Day natin, I may go to Pag-asa Island to raise the flag there," adding that funds were ready for the "full fortification" of the planned construction of an airport on the island.
Also, Duterte said he would "officially claim" Benham Rise "as ours and rename it as Philippine Reach."
