Long awaited criminal cases against Senator Leila De Lima has now been filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) at the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Friday afternoon.

De Lima was charged for violation of Section 5 (sale and trading of illegal drugs) in relation to Section 3 (jj), Section 26 (b), and Section 28 (criminal liability of government officials and employees) of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The senator was allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison while she was still Justice Secretary.

A combination of drug trafficking cases were filed against De Lima by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) , former National Bureau of Investigation deputy directors Reynaldo Esmeralda and Ruel Lasala, the National Bureau of Investigation, and inmate Jaybee Sebastian.
