In a live report by the government owned channel PTV-4 shows Rio Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz with her parents Eduardo and Emelita as they met with President Rodrigo Duterte.
The President gave Diaz the check for the P5-million incentive she received for the silver medal she won for the weighlifting event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 2016 Olympics.
Duterte said in a news conference that he would add P2 million to Diaz's prize.
"It is with great pride that I present Hidilyn Diaz, a Zamboangueña," Duterte said.
"If we would just put in the discipline and a little help from the national government, we'd get miracles and surprises along the way," the President added.
Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez said it will put up an institute for sports after the Duterte administration's plan to shift to a federal form of government.
Hidilyn also expressed her plans in putting up a weightlifting gym for kids in the near future.
