To impeach President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is futile with his character and the clear authority that he won in the May 9 elections, Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez said Tuesday.
"The President will not take it (impeachment) sitting down, especially when you have the will of people on your side. 'Wag na lang tayong mag-adventure doon," Alvarez said during the Inquirer Group's multimedia forum in Makati City.
Duterte won the presidential election by a landslide with 16,601,997 votes, that is more than 6 million more than the administration standard bearer Manuel "Mar" Roxas II.
"'Yung impeachment, okay lang 'yan when you have a weak leader. Pero 'pag strong leader, mahirap gawin. Before you do it, nasagasaan ka na," he said.
Duterte practically is in control of 17th Congress, with Alvarez having the support of at least 200 lawmakers in the 290-member lower chamber and another PDP-Laban stalwart, Senator Aquilino Pimentel IV, securing at least 16 senators in the race for Senate Presidency.
