President-elect Rodrigo Duterte told the Abu Sayyaf group (ASG) if they are open to talks with the government or just continue with their atrocities.
Duterte however, also said to the group that they must be clear whether it still wants to be seen as an enemy.
The President-elect said that he asked these questions to the Abu Sayyaf with reasons that he is hesitating in using the peoples money in buying weapons to kill fellow Filipinos.
The Abu Sayyaf, who gets tens of millions of dollars from kidnappings, has recently beheaded two Canadian nationals after not following their ransom deadlines.
On another issue, peace talks between the Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front and the government is also ongoing prompting Duterte to appeal to the rebels in honoring the declaration of the ceasefire.
The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) is also in talks with the next President in ironing “whatever arrangement is acceptable for all,”
